New arrival 1901 IHC MS65 RED

This is my first red IHC and its in a PCGS MS65 RED holder. These are my pics and the color is right on the money. question. The color is orangish red so why is it classified as red?imageimage

Because that's (almost) the original mint color.

Beautiful specimen! What other designation could they give? The red/orange seems to me to assure you're not going to see any darkening during your ownership of this beauty. Coincidentally, I finally filled my type set hole for a ms65 red Indian earlier this week, also PCGS, and will share it also. Congrats on your new arrival.image

  • Beautiful coin, can't get much nicer than that, in MS-65, red. Nice smooth cheek, and I don't see any toning flecks either, which you sometimes see on MS-65, red, IHC's.

Very clean surfaces, nice color and excellent strike. The only thing I can thing of re it not being a six are some minor contact marks. Since nothing jumps out at me, I'd say they're probably in the feathers. I have one of these in 5 RD & there are a few contact marks on the ONE CENT (I can see one on the E in CENT on this coin).

seriously, chessnutdog, that's a great coin and reminds me of another I'll post later when I get home. Just get the camera a little bit more away from the coin to allow your macro focus to work properly. I'd love for you to retake this one. What did it set you back(if I'm not being too nosy). Oh, here it is, my ngcms65rd!imageimage

Whoops, I hope I did not mis-speak. I just used this criteria on my long-time search that just culminated in a purchase. I have not received it yet, but I wanted assurance from the seller that one of the pics did note indicate a deepening of the red which I worried indicated going to the red-brown stage. It is red/orange in the other pics, described as "fiery red" by the seller. The questionable pic was from further away showing the entire slab (first gen pcgs, my favorite, and a definite additional selling point, as the coin seems to be floating in air), and less lighting made it look darker than the close-ups. So, I could be wrong that the orange seems to me to indicate it's still on the, as mentioned, mint-issue side of color.

That's very nice. How much did it cost? I would personally like one that clean for my type collection.

Nice. Even a tiny bit nicer than the MS65 RD I used to have in my old Registry 20th Century type set. (Mine had the same color but a carbon fleck or two, as I recall- I think it was a 1904).
