Three delightfully frosty Frankies!!!!

All three were cracked out of PCGS PR66CAM holders that I picked off on Teletrade at $60 each. I corrected the problem that caused them to grade 66CAM. Some poor schmuck submitted them in crappy flips and they hazed over while in for grading.

The first is a shot DCAM - pretty good shot. The second likely would not grade DCAM due to some weakness in the mirrors, and too much frost fade on the bell. The third is a lock Deep Cameo.

It's great you saved these coins from certain doom, however it was not too long ago that pcgs reccomended that proofs be sent in inside poly bags. I had 100 moderns sit for four months at pcgs and I still own some of the 20 or so worst know modern halves etcimage-------------------------------BigE

These three aren't monsters. Fact is, 1956 is one of the best years for contrast on proof Franklins. But, in answer to your question, anywhere and everywhere! Shops, shows, eBay, Teletrade, etc. Hunt, hunt, hunt! image

Very nice Russ. Kudos to you for tending to the "Numismatic Hygene" needs of old Ben. Bathing a coin to remove haze on cameo proofs is a responsibility owed to future generations of collectors, right?

What would even be better would be if you found and bathed cameo Frankilins with dates other than 1956, 1962 and 1963. I for one would like to see you (and Marty and everyone else that hunts for cameos) to start finding 1950, 51, 52, 53, 54, 55, 57, 58, 59, 60 & 61 cameo Franklins and post pictures of them.

Russ, you seem to have a sixth sense at these kinda things.

Great eye for CAMs and DCAMs.

    Wanna unload the second one?

Nice coin rescue! The one coin looked like it was suffering in the PF66cam holder with all those spots.

    Here's a 1961 I pulled from a proof set recently:

It's a nice looking cameo, but hairlining limits the grade to no better than PR65.

I have to respect anybody who can grade a proof in the higher grades. I have a number of Kennedy and Franklins proofs that I'm getting ready to send for TPG. I've never submitted any my self, so I'm in for a learning experience.

  • Nice score--curious if one of those 56 DCAMs recently appeared on the bay, by any chance?
The 61 looks nice as well. Since we're on the subject of proof Franklins, um, is it possible to discern which
number die the coin was struck from? And, why is that significant? image

Russ, beautiful 1961 Franklin. It would look nice in the raw cameo proof franklin set I have in a Capital holder. It would upgrade the current 1961 I have. Would you be interested in selling? If so, PM me. SanctionII.

Russ, what do you currently use to get the haze off of proof coins? image
