Aw, wouldn't you sell it if you made a 68 DCAM?

Please add the above as an addendum to my previous statement.

What a treat to look at as my work day winds down to a close. Tonight I will have to pull out some 1967 SMS cameo halves that I have and see if any come close to Russ's Moose (probably not, much to my consternation). If memory serves me, I have one or maybe two that have an obverse that looks like the Moose but the reverses simply do not measure up.

$35, cracked it out of a PCGS MS65CAM holder.

Some poor schmuck submitted it in a crappy flip.

Good "Numismatic Hygene" should be practiced by all. It simply is appalling to see cameo coins looking so down at the heals, don't you think?

<< <i>how long did this MOOSE get dipped before it became an official MOOSE? >>
This one I had NCS take care of. The mirror depth is extreme for an SMS coin which makes them very delicate. Sometimes with mirrors like this on an SMS coin - particularly when the hazing is as bad as this one was - a dip can create mint frost in the fields and reduce the contrast. I decided to pay the $18 and have the pros take handle it.

Russ, after seeing the 'before' pics, what was it about the coin that led you to believe it could clean and climb? Or was it just a feeling and/or 'nothing lost nothing gained' if I try? Trying to get a fix on your mindset as you decided to submit. Thanks!
Ya' done real good.

It was obvious the mirrors were strong, and the devices frosted. The only other question was would it conserve? From experience I learned - the hard way - what flip haze looks like, and this was obviously it. Generally speaking, flip haze is removable.

In all seriousness, they do a great job and provide a valuable service to big and small collectors. Their cost is nominal and they will only accept a coin if they think they can help. I am very impressed.

<< <i>That's the problem ... it ain't luck ... Russ works hard at his scores and is great at evaluating a coin from crappy images. He hustles damn hard for what he gets, as do a lot of others around here! >>
You're right, he is talented and great at what he does. I didn't mean to make it sound like it was just luck. That was a poor choice of words on my part.
