1962 and 1964 proofs

Need help.

Still searching through the estate after my wife's grand uncle, and there are some proof sets among all the raw coins. It is fifteen sets (Philadelphia) from 1964 and five from 1962. What do I look for?
The coins looks really Extreme to me!

Thank you for your help!

Cameo Contrast in one of the first things.
Today's mighty oak is just yesterday's nut that held its ground.
  • Some pictures would be helpful image At the minimum, they're worth $10 each... image Condition Rare coins could bring a good amount of money, but, you need the knowledge and experience to spot these coins... if you can take some pictures or scans, there's plenty here that could help you, especially Russ and MadMarty... image

Look for coins that look like these:

You need to wait more than 30 seconds.

  • Thank you!

I have only opened one envelope from each year. Fourteen 1964 and 4 1962 still unopened. Will it be wrong to open them, can the price be higher for a proof set in an unopened brown envelope.

I will try to take some pics of the two I have opened.

Edit: ... and is it stupid to take the coins out of the plastic wrap to take better pictures?

Yes, the market does attach a premium to "unopened" sets. Opened, they'd bring $8 to $10. "Unopened", $12 to $15.

  • Not much risk then, with 30 Norwegian kroner difference!

About 18 sets, how is the chance to find DC's?

"What do I look for? "

In the 64 proof sets you need to look for this( the one on the right is an accented hair):

  • To maximize value sell them unopened and make sure to state they are unopened. If you open them don't take them out of the plastic packaging.

If you open them please check for Jefferson nickels that look like the following. Please note the super frosty devices on both sides, the clear, haze free mirror like fields and the complete lack of hairlines. image

In Lincolns, 1962 proof cents are well known for a number of different doubled die obverses affecting the date. Many of them will bring in excess of $25 for an average grade copy, no cameo required, but it would add to the coin's value.

For 1964 proof, same thing except on the reverse. With nearly a dozen different ones that are all clearly visible under 5X, if you find one you'll know you've found something odd.
