Sms quarter that I am contemplating

There is this quarter that is available for sale that I like, but its in the wrong holder. I know, the first response will be, "buy the coin, not the holder". I posted a picture of the coin for everyone first to take a shot at the grade. Then, If you would like tell me what you think its worth.

The coin looks great. 1956's that have frosted devices on both sides like that in the pictures are very hard to find. The reverse looks like it has great contrast between the devices and fields. The frost fades and the frost breaks on the eagle (2:00 and 4:00 on the wing and to either side of legs) may prevent a CAM designation. The obverse field as it appears in the picture looks like it is not that mirrored, though it may only be haze or the photo itself. The obverse also has the mirror break just inside the rim at 2:00 to 4:00. This break is very common. The obverse also shows a mark in the field next to Washington's lips, however it may be lint or a scratch on the slab.

All in all, a very nice coin. My guess on the grade is MS66 CAM.

I think you mean 1965s, right? (Not trying to be a grammar cop, just trying to clarify.)

Great coin, off one of the best obverse dies. I'd guess MS67CAM.

I have to step out for a couple of hours so I'll give up the grade and the asking price for the coin now. Its in an Ngc 68* holder and the owner is asking about $300.00 for it. The price seems a little high, but it is a nice looking coin.

68* means that is a near miss cameo. The only one that sold at Teletrade in the past year sold for $110 and it is a nicer looking coin than this one. I'd say its more than a little overpriced unless something has happen to the market since 04/2004.

Sequitur, you are correct sir. I need to check my spelling for typos before I post. The 1956 should be 1965.

The photo is very deceptive, as it was taken in shadow in very bright light. It reminds me of JW's pics, not that they're bad, they're just tough to read. I'd say the coin is a 7 or 8, but the degree of contrast is impossible to tell based on the image. My "guess" is it's a borderline cam. Nice coin. Many of the coins holdered with the designation suck in both PCGS and NGC plastic, and many of the non-designated coins are nice. I like the coin, but it's about double what I'd pay without a look.
