ready for another Heritage problem ... this ever happen to you

You bid on a coin via internet, and you get an email that confirms your bid was accepted and congratulating you for being the high bidder. Internet bidding closes and you are still top bid.

Coin hits the floor and live bidding opens, no one bids, and lot closes.

You won, right?

Wrong! Accordingly to Heritage, a second email in the same bid amount was entered just prior, so it was the winning bid. I guess this falls into the "glitch in the computer system" category. Since that bid was first, it wins, even though the email from Heritage, and the system at Heritage, allows you to think you won.

Thanks Heritage.

I don't think I buy this one. I have a hard time believing a computer-generated system would accept two bids in the same amount.
I brake for ear bars.

A lot of people have had problems with their system. I presonally have not, but I don't bid that often in their auctions. Perhaps others have had the same experience?

I think that it is possible for the system to accept two identical bids, but I do not think that it then should send you a confirmation as the high bid, etc.

  • I bought two coins from their internet auction that closed last Tuesday. They sent me an invoice and I paid it vai CC. They then sent me a confirmation of funds charged to my CC successfully.

Yesterday, I got another invoice for the same two coins for more than the first one. They sent the first invoice without S/I. I sent them a scathing email regarding their poor service and ask them what I should do. Have not heard from them yet.

WHAT A ROYAL PAIN IN THE A$$ IT IS DEALING WITH THEM.

  • I have never had a problem with them...in fact the service has been great (knock wood). I have not been involved in any of their Signature auctions or those that involve floor bidders, though.
  • beartracks42, I had that same problem and it was about a year ago. I got a bunch of "overdue" email invoices a month after my card had been charged and the coin had been received. At the time Heritage blamed it on "switching offices"? It took a phone call to straighten it out. I think I saw someone on RCC complain about the same issue. It seems like online payments don't always get recorded.

  • Is this a possibility.
There is more than one online bidding venue, you're bidding on one and he is biding on the other. The individual system on each venue reports back to their bidder they are high bid and sends the bid on at which point it is found that his slightly preceeed yours.

Beartracks42; The same thing happened to me in Tuesdays auction. I paid via CC and received the confirmation that my CC had been successfully processed for the first invoice. Then Thursday, I received another invoice for the shipping. I called and was told the computer program had not added in the shipping. I had to call them and have the shipping added to the CC. The lady I talked to said that all the first invoices had not included the shipping. I can understand that these things happen and it was not a big deal to me.

If I had waited for a couple more days before I paid, then the correct invoice would have been sent and there would not have been a problem at all.
    Have a good day, Gary
  • 1946Hamm,

I got an email from Heritage yesterday. They gave me the same explanation and said that the shipping fees would be dropped due to their error. Today, I received a "your package has been shipped" email. It appears to me that Heritage has let some of their customer service slip lately and that they are now working to correct the problems. This is a good move on their part.image
