storied mysterypro...holy crap, Bonds maybe?? Arod. I just got chills.

Georgetown has the 19th as the date on their site. Im not sure who has ordered from Chris but maybe we can all meet and have a live
break one night. we can keep track of cards pulled and nail the short prints on the first night. Of course mass trading and hanging out
at the nearest walmart will surely follow!

    AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHh

  • Im not a big baseball card guy but this set sounds interesting.
From a investment point of view would this be a good set to grab and store away? From walmarts and the like?

    Thanx for the info Chris
I look forward to the posts - I think last year we wore everyone out to the point where they went down and bought some retail! Now that's a tribute to the product!

Sigs of 1956 celebrites? I'm not a big lover of cuts on cards - but of course if I got an Eisenhower cut, I wouldn't, like, throw it away of anything.

Kevin - Hope to see you over here extolling the nuances of Topps bubble gum and of course a report on your local "pack searcher" series! God I hate those guys!

Again, looking forward to the festivities! Hope we have a bunch of collectors involved.

funny you bring up pack searcher, just when you thought they were somewhat intelligent they prove themselves wrong.

I went into target today and bought 5 packs of bowman chrome draft, I went to the card to do the ritual and saw that two of them
were partially opened. Oh I was cussing. I knew that it would look bad if I tried to return them so I just opened them and BAM
autograph. What an idiot, he can't even nail a graph even when he opens it! Watch out guys, always check this.

I still have 40 pounds of gum from the past 3 years if anyone is interested. Lets hope there is no Helton "SP" this year!

    Thanks

So what was the deal with retail packs last year as opposed to hobby?

    Just better SPs?

    OK Kevin
We'll score one for the good guys! So, what was the auto?

    image

I pulled this auto out of a blister retail B Heritage box.

Now in preparation for this year and the fact that you searched forever to pick up the "Purple" Helton SP, I am awarding you this!

    Good luck! And happy hunting.

Clint Negotte, nothing special but I can't believe the scum missed that one!

Mike, you in on the live break??

    Kevin
  • Last year the retail packs when the product first came out were loaded. Some with as many as 3 SPs per pack. The Autograph and relic cards seemed to be easier to pull as well.

yep second pack I pulled from retail had a Pujols/Musial double jersey numbered to 55...it was downhill after that. If you are going
    to buy retail buy early!!!

What will a box cost me at Walmart? Do you think I need to get there ASAP to grab a box on opening day?
  • Last year the Wal-Mart Boxes were 29.99. It will probaly be a week or so after the release that they get the boxes.

My best Heritage pull came late, but they seemed to be more frequent early.. My best was a Ernie Banks Autograph numbered 18/55.

    Very nice pull!!
As was said, buy early - and remember the closed blister boxes - 29.99 are the better buy IMO. The boxes that are designed to sell as individual packs get picked over and not as good a deal. Plus, you get an extra pack in the blister retails - so that you pay for 10 at 3 bucks a pop and get an extra pack free! Also, last year, there was 1 SP per pack in those boxes all season long where it was slim pickens in the regular retail loose pack boxes.

In terms of bang for buck - this is a fun set - loaded with stuff - has some allure for the vintage guys - connects you with the player of today and only 3 bucks/pack!

    I am looking to trade!

whats nice is that the autos are hard to cherry pick, topps puts them in the middle so jerks can't find them. The GU can be picked but
who cares. I think the early 29.99 boxes are loaded and the auto odds have been much better every year I have bought this stuff, as
the month goes on the good cards dry up and usually what is left is a pile of sp's which isn't bad at all! I can still get 75% for the
2001 sp's I have and still 50% book for the other years. You can't find this in any sets period.

fun AND a good value....Im on board.
