    Don't buy a piece of crap... go to

    www.peakoptics.com --> scale loupe --> 1983 --> 1983-STD

    Worth every penny of the $88 it'll cost you.
  • I concur, the Peak Optics Loupe is outstanding. I just got mine a couple of weeks ago. I wish I had it a few months back when I submitted cards for the Nov, Dec specials. A761506 was right about the cost. About $90 shipped, and they ship very quickly. You will have it in a few days.

  • I purchased a 10x loupe someone on these boards was selling: piece of garbage. Spent $22 at a gem/rock store and am very happy.

    With the Peak loupe, you can measure precise centering because it has a scale in 1/10 mm. Same loupe used by GAI, I'd guess PSA uses them also.
  • You absolutely MUST buy a loupe with compound lenses (a series of simple lenses). This corrects for spherical and chromatic abberation. Without spherical abberation correction, you will notice that the center of the image is clear, but the image gets increasingly fuzzy as you look to the outer edge. Chromatic abberation will cause different colors (remember white light is made up of all colors of light) to refract over each other, resulting in a blurred image.

    ALL cheap loupes consist of a single simple lens (convex). A good loupe will have 3-4 simple lenses in combination, made of different materials which have different indices of refraction.

    Peak makes the most affordable high quality loupes out there, but be prepared to spend $75-100. I bought a 15X loupe from tedpella around $80 including shipping. Oh, and Peak does make some cheap lenses as well, so be careful what you buy. You definitely want one with a measuring reticle as well (to determine centering).

    Thanks everyone. Does the peak have a light on it. I checked the website and didn't notice.
