50s and 60s unopened x-mas racks?

What's up with these late 50s-early 60s x-mas rack packs. They seem to all be sold by the same seller, and I've never seen them before. Mark Murphy makes no mention of them in his unopened pack guide either. Are they legit? Are they searchable? And more importantly, why doesn't Andre Dawson get more Hall consideration?

Murphy has sold them in the past in SCD. They are vendor's "repacks" and the cards are of poor quality.
IMO, a bad place to put your money.

I wouldn't touch the X-Mas packs w/ a 10 foot pole. Mostly garbage. From what I understand, they were resealed post market - and it's been debated where the cards were obtained from (since virtually none are in NM+ condition). I bought a 59 X-Mas pack several years ago and there were rounded corners, horrible o/c and general wear. Be very wary...

As for Andre Dawson - I'm with you. I saw him play in Chicago and he was a force to be reckoned with. He'll get in - eventually.

  • Where are you still seeing these? I have a few that I picked up a long time ago just because they had stars on the front or back and can't seem to find them anywhere anymore to get an idea of their value. The cards do not seem to be pristine, but i have a 59 santa pack with Duke Snider, Hoyt Wilhelm, and Sniders Play Brings LA Victory all showing on the front and Don Drysdale on the back. These all appear that they would bring at least a 7. ONe thing I do notice now that I am looking at them, is that the 63 packs that I have seem to be more dinged up, but this could be because the cards are much more losely packaged in the cello than the others. The 59's and 60's I have do not move around in there at all.

That's what I figured. Seemed fishy, and I don't know much about unopened product from that era.

And greg, I say that anybody who played a long time for the expos and cubs in the 70s and 80s should be in the hall regardless of their stats, for the simple fact that they haven't killed themselves. Throw in an MVP for a last place team and many AS game appearances and he should be a shoe-in. One of the dominant hitters of his era. He and Eddie Murray (my all time fav) were very similar. Also, I think Dale Murphy should get some more votes.

i bought one a year or 2 ago and it was terrible. the cards showing were in the best condition while the ones within were much worse. i even got 2 sets of dupes from one rack pack. i think the creator of these bootlegs thought nobody would open them.
