My latest Barber half

Here's my latest acquisition, a NGC, XF-45, 1901-o Barber Half. It has smooth surfaces, and looks nice and original. I wish I had the funds to bid on, a really nice, 1897-o, VF-35, PCGS certified Barber Half, that just ran on Ebay. TNFC, (I think that is the dealer's name), was running the auction, and it went off for around $1,200.00. These prices are starting to get insane. That was also a nice looking, original coin. Hopefully, one of the Barber Half collectors on this board, won the bid.

I'm one of those people. Congrats anyway.

That's a very diffficult coin to get in any high grade circulated condition. I was fortunate enough to find one last September. I know Harry seeks these better dated Barber halves out and he's been excellent to work with.
I have to admit the photo lacks punch, but its more than likely the lighting.
Congrats on finding one of the really tough dates in this series !

Cratylus,
Dr. Pete is right, the coin is much nicer than the image. The coin has some nice colors in it, and is virtually mark free. I would have prefered that "perfect", "2 tone look", but a totally original, 1901-o Barber Half, in XF or AU grade, is tough to come by. I'm happy with this coin, even though the toning is darker than my other Barber Halves.

Dan,
I'm glad you like your newest acquisition. Listen to Peter, he won't steer you wrong. Most coins put on scanners don't really pick up the nuances of what a digital camera will ( in the hands of an accomplished photographer ) .
Maybe, PCGS would make a few more bucks photographing coins sent in for submission, and posting these pictures on their respective PCGS Registry Sets. I know I'd pay a surcharge ( such as NGC Photo Brochure - whetever its called ) to have a professional photographer image my submissions and automatically post these pictures to my existing Registry Sets.
PS:
Well, David , do you want to provide us with another ( and more than lucrative ) new service ?

The 2 images I posted on these boards so far, a 1901-s Barber quarter, and this 1901-o Barber half, were not my images. They were borrowed from the dealer's, that I bought the coins from, (with their permission of course). Unfortunately, the images lost quite a bit in the process. My next step, is to try and use my scanner, or attempt to use my wife's digital camera. Hopefully I can improve as I go along.

<< <i>Nothing too exciting, but here is one of my latest halves. I have been collecting over five years and this is the first original 1906-O that I have come across in VF-XF. I have one more upgrade (1904-O) and I will have a PERFECT....nearly perfect VF-XF Barber half set.

ARCO,
I really like the looks of that half. I love the darker, 2 tone look to the barber halves. Are images of your barber half set, posted anywhere, I would love to see them. When I see barber collectors, like yourself, and Mike Hayes, I know I'll be in this for the long haul. I'm currently working on sets of barber quarters, and halves, in VF - XF grades, (with a couple of nice AU coins mixed in).

I disagree. I think the coin looks very original and has great detail and luster for an XF
coin. You usually don't see them that nice for XF and it has alot of eye appeal (at least
to me).
