...on this Treasury medal. I can't find it listed anywhere. Its composition is silver and is slightly larger than a half-dollar(1.5"). Any help would be appreciated.

Cheers,

Bob

    Anyone?

  • They are special medals that were personalized with a person's name and awarded based upon sevice to our country during WW2. I have seen one before that was also personalized. I presume that Alfred Irwin was a real person and did something in the area of finance to warrant the award. Probably helping with raising money through savings bonds? Maybe he worked for the U.S. Treasury? That would require some geneology research.

I don't know what the value would be, but I assume that they are scarce or even rare, since they were issued one at a time and engraved with someone's name. I don't know if any "blank" (not personalized) medals were released.

Too bad that some of the exonumia dealers/collectors do not participate on these forums........

  • Being a engraver and a hobo nickel carver i noticed that alfred irwin name has been engraved into metal while rest of letters , numbers are raised, this means name was added after metal was produced....

I've seen this before so it's probably not rare, but by the same token it appears
to be silver so it's probably not common.
    Tempus fugit.
  • I found this. No pic. but shows price of $39 and mentions the minuteman.

Not a rare medal. The level of wear indicates it was carried as a pocket piece. Honestly, probably not much more than a bullion item in that grade. The engraved name does add some interest...especially if it could be determined just what he did to merit receiving the medal.

That's what I've been trying to find out through the Treasury.
