Auction title "1958 PCGS MS62FS JEFFERSON NICKEL POP 4, 0 LOWER"

Some buyers like to collect the low grades too I guess.

  • From the pix it looks like he got a gift in the grade he received

  • I love the caption.

    Not really an understatement.

    No, it's no joke.
Are you a joke for asking?
The seller is so blunt with his assement.
    I admire that.

A little harsh don't ya' think? It's his first post.

  • I did not intend to question the character of the seller. I am appalled that a coin of this condition could even rate MS. I’ve seen a lot of nice looking coins grade AU for having the slightest hint of rubbing.

My reference to a joke was whether the PCGS would rate such a coin as MS. I doubt that it left the mint in that condition.

OBW all the way...the quality on this date is horrid....PCGS has NEVER graded a 1958 Jefferson better than MS65/MS65FS. I had pulled a stack of FS coins from a number of original rolls that I bought last summer on the way back from the ANA and I had sorted them into a "rejects" stack and a "possible MS64FS or better" stack, and then I sorted the "keeper" coins by condition. Next thing that happened is I think I grabbed a reject to tie up this submission when I meant to grab the nicest keeper coin instead. What really scares me is the fact that this got the same numeric grade as this coin, different submission but graded the same week.

I don't think I would ever be so brutal in writing up a consigned coin...of course I've never had a coin on consignment that deserved the verbal smackdown that this "home grown" wonder received. image
