Amazing 3 Cent Nickel proof collection

I don't collect these. But this is a amazing set being sold. Is the seller on these forums? The story behind them sounds interesting. It doesn't say if the collector is still living and had them in a vault or they were just discovered in a vault. Either way, it's pretty cool. First time I've seen a "Seitz" holder.

I would love to have just one from this as a type coin. I don't think I could even afford that.

Perhaps I am wrong, but wouldn't it make sense for the seller to submit these and sell them in slabs? Or is that too much time and expense for dealers? If the set is that awesome, I would.

  • Well, the seller claims they're worth $38K in PF66/67, but per the grey sheet, they are worth about $6500-7000 PF63 bid - I've put togther 4 complete sets of 3CN nickels and those photos don't look like PF66/67s to me - with a 5% re-stocking fee, someone may pay a lot of money (right now $1250) to look at what may well be a medicore set of unslabbed 3CNs. JMHO - right now the downside's around $20K

Thanks for the info. I guess that answers the question about why he didn't get them slabbed.

Rolling the dice big-time on this lot

The seller had them listed before - at $25K last time (maybe listed even more times than once before now)

If I was interested,I would go see them before bidding

That is an interesting set. I've never seen a full set of 3 cents in proof. Too bad the pictures are not the best.
