Hey guys!! I was wondering if you might be able to help me out with some information. My Dad has been looking for a Dahlonega piece of gold for awhile and his local dealer finally located one. It is the 1845 D 5 dollar gold and it just came back from NGC as ef-45. I saw one at heritage go for 3200 recently and the only other auction for that grade is over two years old at it was, of course, much lower. The dealer who my dad has bought from for many years if offering it to him for 2300. This would be the biggest coin purchase he has ever made and I would like to see if that price in the ballpark for that date and grade. I know eye-appeal is another thing all together but I have not been able to see it and I don't know gold anyway.
If ANYONE can help to tell me if that is a decent price, I would REALLY appreciate it!

Original pieces might cost more than those that have been dipped or lightly cleaned.
1845-D is one of the more common dates for Dahlonega $5's, but believe it or not, there is a variety than can be cherrypicked. In about 10%, date is shifted slightly to the right.
The demand for the XF pieces seems to be greater than for the choice AU's.
