1910 TipTop Bread Pirates.......

OK, this is gonna sound fake and wacky, but here's the story:
My grandfather (deceased) was an antique dealer along with my aunt and grandmother (still getting their antique on), and he specialized in paper and metal memorabilia from everywhere (stamps, sports, coins, war, etc....). Every now and then he would come across some amazing sports stuff that would cost him nothing. He had a knack for that. I remember once he bought a ton of Negro League memorabilia from a former player who needed the money. A few years later the Negro League boom hit and it was worth a fortune. About a year before his death, they all went to buy an estate, and inside a trunk was a set of "tobacco-looking" cards that he knew nothing about. however, one of the cards was Honus Wagner and it looked like the T206, and the cards were in amazingly good condition. He brought them to me because I was knee-deep in the hobby, I put them each in a screw-down, and I found out what they were. It was a complete set of the 1910 Tip Top Bread Pittsburgh Pirates World Champions set. The cards are in a safe deposit box and I don't have a scan, so you'll just have to take my word on the condition: The Wagner is a solid PSA 6, might get a 7 but I'm leaning towards 6 due to soft corners and 70/30 centering. No creases, tears, etc.. clean back. Everything else averages around a PSA 6.5 if you take out two cards that get a 3-5 because of light creases. I'm pretty sure this is by far the nicest version of the set that has surfaced, and there are only 5 cards that PSA has graded, none of them getting higher than 5. Not that we're exactly looking to sell right now, but have any of you seen any of these cards sell either as singles or a set? Have you seen any graded by other companies?

You will become a legend really fast at this pace!
If the Wagner comes back a 6, you can throw away the book on the card! Catalog has a 7 at about 9 grand but if this were at a major auction, with a 1/1 pop - well you get the picture!
Thanx for sharing - and please do get us a scan if you can!

And it's posts like yours that make the boards fun, for better or for worse.
I've seen these in SGC holders, they would start a bit of a frenzy on ebay, and I suspect there is a 50-50 chance someone from a large auction house will contact you from this post.
I'm pretty sure Murcerfan collects them, see if he or Marz weighs in on this.
Always looking for Topps Salesman Samples, pre '51 unopened packs, E90-2, E91a, N690 Kalamazoo Bats, and T204 Square Frame Ramly's
If you got that joke, then you're my new best friend.
how much to make Gramps n' Granny happy ?
as there are reprints which could fool alot of collectors. and you will undoubtably get more $$ should you decide to sell.
I'll give you my divorced wife and my $3250 a month alimony payment for them forever.

<< <i> and there are only 5 cards that PSA has graded, none of them getting higher than 5. >>
I don't think this is true. PSA has graded every single card in the set and several of each cards.

<< <i>Fish Frenzy is from the first season of Curb your Enthusiasm. It's what the old man orders in the retaurant. It's just funny if you like that kind of humor that's not funny. Sports Night type stuff. >>

Now there's a hell of a show! It's like watching one train wreck after another week after week! But then, you have to like Seinfeld and other sitcoms like that. Hey, that's what we need....a true antihero of the boards!

you may want to post your find on the network 54 forums. theres some very vintage hardcore collectors there with deep pockets who would love to know it's out there
