Grades in - is the name of the modern coin grader Jack Kevorkian??

'Cause he killed my order, I know that I can miss the grade by a point or two but this is past stupid, just got another reason for not renewing my membership (for a while).

  • What was the service level? That is pretty quick for a Mod submission.

I was killed also. I was right on for about 3 coins, and 1 to 3 points high on the rest. I can't beleive I sent in 3 SMS Kennedys expecting 67s, and got two 64s and a 65!

Mine was also a modern submission that graded much quicker than expected.

looking at the grades as posted and not having any explanation for your seemingly harsh words leaves little to say. what were you expecting, what were your pre-submission estimates?? i know that when i've gotten less-than-expected grades it's been enlightening and helpful for me to view the holdered coin. i often see problems or grade limiting characteristics that i wasn't seeing earlier.

I had a recent one also get a bit butchered. Even a true cam not being called cam.

Nothing special? You got your order done in about a month which is amazing for Modern. I have one that is 2.5 months old right now. Rcvd 11/16. At least you are lucky in this respect.

    Ouch BigE.

I wonder if something is going on with grading moderns. I will review my coins (expectations were in another thread) and if I really feel messed upon, I may go for a presidential review but with the aim of saying modern grading has really clamped down. I have over a dozen MS65 Ikes to compare my 5 MS63/64 coin to...

It is my opinion that the standards for moderns have completely changed. It used to be pcgs was about a point more lenient than classics (have you ever seen the marks that many pcgs ms66 Kennedies have? Imagine an ms66 Walker with those marks.). Now pcgs grades them the same as classics. This is sort of a good thing... but it makes buying coins say off ebay impossible, because who knows now which standard it was graded too.

I got results on a modern order late last week. Most were MS quarters from one customer and they were particularly harse (sad customer). The rest were modern commems for another customer and 2 of 8 were MS 70s with the other 6 being MS 69s (very happy customer).

"I sent in 3 SMS Kennedys expecting 67s, and got two 64s and a 65!"

You EXPECTED 67s but you're not the expert. You are paying for an expert opinion by submitting your coin to a TPG service. You are not paying them to have your expectations met.

Whoever is careless with the truth in small matters cannot be trusted with important matters.
