This coin was passed down to me from my grandfather, I had no idea what it was worth until I did alittle research on the topic. All circulating pennies at that time were struck in zinc-coated steel because copper was needed for the Allied war effort. This is a true collectors item and has great sentamental value to me, being passed down from my grandfather. THIS IS AN ORIGANAL 1943 STEEL CENT and only a few were ever made. About 12 examples are known to have been struck by the Mint, evidently by accident, when copper-alloy 1-cent blanks remained in the press hopper when production began on the new steel pennies. A long with this rare coin, I will also through in my rare 1940 cent. This 1943 penny is is even more unique than any other of it's kind becasue it is not 100% copper nor 100% steel in but rather 60% coper and 30% steel and 10% zink which was very rare at the time. All steel materials at the time were used to fund an on going war, being that this coin is a mixture of both is truly unheard of.
