Vintage Commons- grade or sell raw?

I recently picked up a small lot of Topps and OPC commons (54-78) that look to be in great shape (I'd guess 7-9's). Is it worth getting these graded or can I realize the same prices raw on the Bay?

the image isnt the greatest, but heres a sample of what these cards look (the distortion on the 67 is from the plastic sheet, not the card)

All told, there's about 20 cards in the lot

No 7, 8 or 9's in that lot. All 6's at best.

  • I would sell most of them raw! But first cherry pick the stack into two piles. The one's that look mint and the others... Wait another day and look again and remove the non-mint ones you missed the first time. You might be surprized what you missed the first and second time. If you dont think the cards will come back with a grade of PSA 9. Dont waste you money sending the in for slabbing.
  • thanks for the advice guys- still have much to learn about grading

Don't count all of them out yet. Get yourself a nice magnifying lamp (lighted). You'll save yourself some $.

jwasserman - you could buy some 60's commons on ebay PSA 7, 8 and 9's - if you buy some 9 OC's they are cheap. Then you can look at the corners, edges, etc., under a magnifier glass, 10X minimum, I prefer a 16X. This way you could basically get a "reasonable" idea what your cards would grade from PSA.

'54-'56 commons usually do better in PSA 6 than in raw-Ex-Mt by enough to justify grading them on the cheapest level of service.
