Small Star SBA Dollar

Can anyone tell me what dates and mint marks this variety is found in? Also if you have a link to some photos that would be greatly appreciated.

The person you want to talk to about SBA's is board member DRG. He knows more about SBA's than most of the rest of us. His SBA set is #1 in the regisrty. Here is a link to his set and email.

Yes, leaving in the am for 2 weeks in Barbados.

The small star varieties have been found on all of the S coins except the 1981 S. They were fisrt recognized by Breen in his Complete Encyclopedia in relation to the 1979 S Proof coin. I do not know of anyone else writing about them since. It is considered to be a die wear issue although it is unusual that this would occur only at one mint when all 3 were producing the same coin.

I do not have any quick references for photo's but what we are talking about is most evident on the 3 star to the left of the date.

You know Grandam, there are SBA's with FT or full talon as well. I don't know much about it but PCGS may start to recognize this designation one day. Ask DRG about it.
