1973 New Zealand $1

image I am now the proud owner of this 1973 New Zealand $1 still in the original case. Mintage of 37,000 coins. Can anyone help me out on values for these pieces. Thanks, Lee

Mintage is 37K for the UNC, but only 16K for the proof. 2004 Krause says $3 for the UNC and $5 for the proof.

Considering how relatively low the mintage is, that's kind of surprising. If you factor in the packaging and the totally awesome toning on that coin, I would say it's a safe bet that you can throw Krause out the window on this. Still not worth a ton, but definitely ought to be worth more than the lowball catalog price. That's sweet.

These are easily found because there is almost no demand. For most moderns
to have much value there need to be fewer than a few hundred pieces available.
While modern NZ is more actively collected than most, this mintage is still pretty
high. Some of the NZ moderns are far tougher. There are some rarities because
there were almost no collectors until the late '80's.

Lovely!!! image I wonder what was across Lizzie's head that blocked completion of the nice target toning?
