California Quarter Drops Monday

Hoping it comes with complimentary anabolic steroids. Article.

"According to a poll commissioned by the Coinstar coin counting service, about half the adults in the United States say they are collecting the state quarters and trying to assemble a complete set of all 50 of them."

I find this hard to believe.

    I don't.
Always looking for attractive rim toned Morgan and Peace dollars in PCGS or (older) ANA/ANACS holders!

I still find it fascinating that everyone writes off the potential of these coins. Certainly all
the regular issues and regular proofs to date have been made in vast numbers and saved
in huge quantities in typical condition and will not be anything but common in our lifetimes.
This says nothing about future coins in the series or any special issues, varieties, high grades,
and errors. Many see these coins as merely a way to attract collectors to seek "real coins"
which were minted a couple centuries ago; they see no value in the coins or in collecting them.

Collectors don't seek only the common and the mundane, they don't limit their collections to
only that which is readily available, they don't learn only from studying old silver coins, and
they certainly don't need to collect what others deem worthy. Certainly I hope many of them
do go back and collect the older coins (especially the clad quarters), but this is not a perequisite
for me to consider them real coin collectors.

Bring on the California quarter. It will be another great boost for collectors and the hobby.

Heavens no!! Just pay the Mint a tidy 300-500% markup for a baggie mint set, or some proof quarters complete with a DNA sample or two!!

Agreed. The entire program has been a boom for coin collecting in general.
