My problem with NGC

NGC is or at least was to loose on grades. I have a problem buying NGC coins because of this. Check out this aution Auction link It is a nice coin but a large mark in the field can't happen with a 67, IMO. Or can it and it just can't happen in a PCGS 67 holder? Is it that PCGS is too tight and that is a legit 67 or is it that NGC is too loose?

I think it's light enough and the overall coin's qualities are probably sufficient for 67. Of course, it's a picture and pictures aren't much better than sight unseen when it comes to these things. Coin is priced a bit high for me but it sure looks nice.

Could the mark be on the holder?

Likely not a PCGS 7, but the "thing" in the left field doesn't look like a mark to me, and if it is, it looks really light and maybe overstated in the pic. As 68's go, the coin is hammered. There is great seperation between the right wing and the field, and the tail, arrows, and obverse detail are exceptional (even the die crack at the base of the bust). The coin looks almost pl. I think PCGS would 6 it for marks (including the one in the hair), but I think it's an ANA 67.

ANA 67 - Has full original luster and sharp strike for date and mint. May have three or four very small contact marks and one more noticeable but not detracting mark. One or two partially hidden flaws or scuff marks may be prsent. Eye appeal is exceptional.

Sounds like that coin to me. JMO

The hits in the hair don't cut it for a 67 imo.

The "hit" in the field is a mark on the plastic. I'd almost guarantee it.

I don't think it is, but it maybe. I guess you have to see it in person.

The left field very well could be on the slab... but what about the hits near the hairline on George's fore head? Sorry, I guess seeing coins like this is why I am not hip to the modern age...
