Does anyone have any interest in cards or memorbilia?

I look at the list of topics on the first page here this Saturday morning and I'm struck that there's just a single new topic in the last few days that is actually to do with the title of the forum. Every post is about lawsuits, questionable ebay auctions, ebay tactics, or what PSA will grade. There is one thread asking for an ID of a pin. This is not a fun place at the moment.
I'm going to list my back-burner/oddball sets. If anyone has any interest, please discuss them.
1) 1966 (?) Parkhurst Coins. These were 1-per-pack from one of the Upper Deck "missing link" sets in the mid-90s. There are 240 of them in the set, but I rarely if ever see them for sale. I guess the set was just lightly ordered and whatever coins are out there are being held on to. I have 3 from packs I opened. Strangely, I have 3 of the 4 black coins from each of the Orr and Howe "insert" coins. I got them for $20 back when they came out from a guy who opened a case of the stuff but was still short of a set. I don't remember ever seeing any others, though I don't look too often.
2) 1956 Topps Pins. I really like these things. I imagine one day going to the National with a chest full of them (and their 1910 counterparts). Now that PSA has started grading them prices are taking off, and when a set registry appears I think they'll go even higher. A local dealer has some graded, but his prices are kind of high. Full book for all of them, which is pretty stiff for the beat up ones. But he does have a 7 of one of the SPs, so maybe full book is a bargain. Tough to say this early in the market. But they are very colorful and in mint condition very attractive little items.
3) 2001 Topps Gallery and Heritage. I never finished these sets when they came out. I picked up a raft of the Gallery SPs recently, and rediscovered my enjoyment of the set. The paintings are of varying degrees of quality, but Topps took a chance on using non-traditional portraiture, I think successfully in most cases. Heritage, of course, is a set that deserves to be completed and I will this year. 2001 was a banner year for set builders, IMHO.
4) 1994 SP Red Holoviews. 1 in 75 packs, 38 in the set, it was tough to complete back then, and hadn't gotten any easier. I'm missing the A-Rod, naturally, but pulled a few of them back when this product came out. I think this was the first "hard" set I decided to complete, and I'm still 25% short. They pop up on ebay sometimes, usually with partial sets being broken up. The player collectors go hard after them, with Canseco, McGwire, Clemens, Kruk, etc. usually going for very strong prices compared with other tough inserts.
5) 1933 Sport Kings. I won a Ty Cobb on Teletrade years ago. I think they called it Fair to Good, and I think they were being generous. It actually looks pretty sitting on my desk, but when you look closely, there are about a dozen little creases running across the face of the card, and there are numerous little brown stains/smudges. Rounded corners and rough edges, too. But I am leaning towards starting a set in the near future as I wind up my 75 set. Something with a little more gravitas would be nice. With my Cobb grading a 1 or maybe a 2 on the right day, and aiming at 4-5 overall, it's a worthy challenge. I always thought this set would be a great model for the next big retro set. Someone tried to resurrect the name a few years ago, and issued Montana and Ted Williams cards, but they were by subscription and retail price was $50 per card or something like that. When UD came out with their 6-sport "Superstars" set I figured that if they came through with another edition it would be with this design. Maybe with more entertainment/history/popular culture cards creeping into sports sets, there will be cards of famous billiard players, jockeys, speed boat drivers, and aviators again.

You know, I was just kickin' around starting some Topps Heritage sets. I hear several collectors love 'em. I'm not into "modern", but what the heck.....anything to p.o. my wife a bit more
I have a friend (well, aquaintance - he's a jerk) just sittin on a bunch of red holoviews you mention - they look sweet - but he lost interest in them....he won't sell 'em because he might "...take it up again sometime...". I tell him he's an a**, and he just laughs....jerk
Good to talk about cards again. Thanks!
Dal

It is because of the Graders that the sports cards have become MORE of a commodity, therefore making money transactions, cost/accuracy of grading and ebay fraud essential to knowing and understanding how to conduct business nowadays. How can one talk about the love of cards when it is drowned out by the ultimate game of chasing after plastic slabs with stickers on them?
Can't argue with you but heck, when in Rome and all that.
I don't collect the 56 pins but do collect other team pins from the 40s and 50s. Got any scans? I also collect press pins of teams I like. Rarely does this kind of stuff get anyone excited.
I collect card back original pen and ink art from the Topps cards 60's thru 80's - again, no interest.
I am one of the big fans of Heritage and this year is quickly upon us - I will be cracking a case of hobby 2005 Heritage - hope this will be my lucky year to get a nice auto!
The 33 Sport kings is a great set - I would like to do the 32 US Caramel but they rarely come up PSA graded and when they do, they're just flat too expensive!
I am working, very slowly, on the T3 Turkey Red set - been picking up mostly distressed 1's - I have 5 to send to PSA - when I get them back, I would like to post them.
Lastly, I am working on the 66T BB raw set - vg-Ex range - have been procrastinating - need to check for a raw lot - nice thing about this grade is that ya don't have to worry about trimming! LOL
Got one idea - we haven't done this in a while - why not post your recent "buys"?
your friend
Mike
Funny you say this Mike Just last week I found almost 500 of these cards. Ill go thru them and send you my dubs! I was gonna write a post about building a collector grade set of 66 Topps bb but thought no one would get excited about it!
