Does a $10 Indian have teeth??

It was a dumb question, so I thought I'd throw caution to the wind, and put it in the title. image

Just got my Bullet sale winnings today, but having never owned a $10 Indian until now, I have nothing to compare it to. Picutures available to me don't help.

Date is 1914. Lady Liberty has the same pouting mouth as the Peace Dollar. But inside her mouth, I see what appears to be her upper teeth. It's either part of the design, or a die chip.

Normal, or an oddity????

I can try to take pictures, but micro photography isn't a strong suit of mine......

I have a Steve Largent 1 oz. silver commemorative medallion that shows a big smile full of teeth. I think the portrait looks terrible on the coin and clownish with all that teeth showing. I've been trying to find a Largent fan to sell this to. No luck. I guess it's the teeth that scares 'em!

Yes baby...that girl has teeth, in fact a bit of an overbite! Put a loupe on it and you can clearly see the chomper(s).

Maybe the TPG's can start putting FT on $10 Indian slabs.

Great transactions with oih82w8, JasonGaming, Moose1913.

  • Yes she does. Look at some pictures of some nice graded ones and you can see her golden teeth. That's just part of the reason she is the best looking coin.image

Funny, but I never noticed. Looks like she could have used a little bit of orthodontic treatment.

Darn, I like this series. All the slabbed stuff does a disservice to the coin because there are raised stars all around the rim and they are fun to touch...yum! Makes a great pocket coin for $250 and when you drag that bad dog out of your pocket you can feel the eyes start poppin out of their heads! Im gonna scan more of them soon but just don't have the time right now. Did recently acquire a 1913 p that I do love and I have an '07 ms61 with the ratty strike and all. I have more but I need to post some pics. That darn ms62 '08 NM is proving very elusive.

There has always been some dispute over the Indian Princess on this coin. First it was her headress and now its her teeth! Geeesh!

I tend to agree with SG. I wonder how well ASG knew his subject.

Well, that's how he came up with the 1836 dollar reverse. She is pretty easy to look at.

OK, I'm confused. What's on the reverse of a 1836 dollar? Someone's reverse that is easy to look at? Whose? How could he do a 1836 coin and the Indian which didn't start until 1907? The same guy was bangin in the studio all those years? He should be ON a coin, not just designing them.

Yeah pharmer, you're right...I was day dreamin'.
  • If you go to Heritage and look at the past auctions and pull up a picture of a MS67 or better you can see "her front teeth are lined with gold". If I new enough I would post a picture, maybe some one could help? image
