My first Morgan, what do you think?

It was cheap, but gotta start somewhere right? It won't be the last either. I can see why Morgans are popular. They are a very attractive coin when seen in person.

Anyway, i'm trying to get a sense of the grading system. WHat do you guys think?

I would grade it F15, and I really like the look of it - a coin that has done it's duty.

  • My sentiments exactly. I like circulated coins. They have history. If only the coin could talk and tell us what it has seen over it's lifetime.

It's a nice original circulated coin. It grades VG10 though, the four lines in the two cotton bolls are not all there.

For what its worth I'd put it at VG also. It is a nice circulated coin, does not appear to be cleaned and has no rim dings or fresh scratches. May all your future Morgan be at least as nice. (That will be a tall order for some)

I'll grade your 99 O Morgan VG-8. Rim seems to be all there and not merging into the coin. I really like the color and original look of this coin. image

That's what I meant. I think there's something wrong with my keyboard.

    I like it.
  • One thing i just noticed on the coin is a small crack in running though the coin showing on the obverse and reverse. It's faint in the pictures but bolder in person. The crack is in front of the eye on the obverse and under the left wing starting from the "U" in united and running towards the wing. It's identical on both sides, but does not continue to the rim.

That is what is called "original". I may be a sucker for Morgans, but I like it.
    I collect circulated U.S. silver

Just imagine the history a coherent 106 year old could tell you... Wao.

    Sounds like you're hooked!

    Nice MOrgan...I'd say VG 10.
