I was playing around with my camera today & took these pics. I figured I never did a "grade the coin" thread, so here goes:

I'll reveal the grade later tonight. image

    Looks G4 to me.

But since it looks like it's in PCGS plastic, I wouldn't be surprised if they'd graded it AG03.

Why on earth would someone slab a tired G4 $1.50 Barber dime?

Were they hoping for G6 ! image

Now... the real question on that dime is... why?

When I first joined the Collector's Club some years ago, BACK WHEN THEY GAVE YOU 4 FREE GRADINGS WITH A GOLD MEMBERSHIP,
I decided to try and slab some of the coins I collected when I was a kid. When I was about 9 or 10 my mother would on occasion (when I
begged) bring me to the coin shop. I'd spend my allowance (and maybe get some help from mom too) on coins I thought were neat. This
is one of those coins. I'll always keep it! The other 3 got bodybagged for various reasons but I had just revived my coin collecting and had
quite a lot to learn about grading & TPG.

    OK, well that explains it...

Interesting to see how a nice story like that can turn a low grade 1898 dime into a very special dime. Cool.

Maybe I oughta submit my 1936 Merc dime- the one that started it all for me, on Thanksgiving Day of 1976.

    It might make VG08. image

    I still have it.

I'm glad someone is submitting lower grade Barber Dimes, just to flesh out the low end of the population reports. The coin pictured here is typical for most 1898 Dimes I see offered.

I like the little stand you have the holder on!

  • I look at a h*** of a lot more Barber dimes (at least at this level) than just about anyone.
Raised rim, not just full, and a lot of laurel. I'd sell it as G+. I need at least one letter of LIBERTY
    for G6.

G4. If you collect Barber material that is what page after page of every Ebay auction looks like. image

People, SELL OFF YOUR MID-GRADE BARBER COINS, so that I can buy something already!!
