I found a couple of these while searching rolls for high grade coins to submit to PCGS.

Is this an error coin, double die, or just struck from an old die?

    No clue.

    Nice pics, though.

Go check out Chuck's site at coppercoins.com, It looks an awful lot like his pics of a 1944P 1DO-001. Is there any doubling on the date?
Some coins are just plain "Interesting"

It is similiar to the 1944P 1DO-001 but the example does not have the doubling on the last T in trust. Also the reverse die characteristics do not match.

I checked the date carefully and it does not 100% match the 1944P 1DO-001 characteristics either but there is doubling of the serifs on the grounded (bottom backside) point of the first four and doubling on the forward points of both fours.

Is there someone to contact to find out if these are discovery pieces? Should I send them to ANACS with attribution research selected (would they confirm discovery)?

Am I wasting my time on an insignificant DDO variety?

Go to the forum on coppercoins.com and post the pics with your question on the forum, Chuck as well as many other Lincoln variety guys would love to take a look at your coin for you.

I noticed that coppercoins.com has an attribution service.

I am thinking about sending in the five coins I found like this and having them given an official attribute.

  • If you are going to pay for atribution send it to John Wexler. He is THE MAN, only $3 as well. Of course you could just send it to ANCS and for $5 they will attribute it.

How long does attribution usually take?

WOW a new Doubled Die. That is awesome. I have only found 1 new doubled die variety. It was a 38-P Jefferson. Way COOL!! I want one!
