1921-D VAM 1o EDS

I picked up a 1921-D VAM-1o in an early die state. The cracks match the photos in Rob's book exactly, but they're not wide yet.

I have a question about the obverse. Above the 2nd U in PLURIBUS, there's a denticle dent in the field. How could this happen? It looks like the planchet might have had the dent, but it would have been smoothed out when stamped, right? If it was from another coin, the real denticle would have a dent. All I can think of is the planchet had the mark and there wasn't enough pressure to smooth it out.
Any ideas?

Yes, planchet defect I'd say because it's under the denticle.

Norm, how many 21-D vams do you have now?

Jack, I'm still trying to catch my breath from that last PM.
I lost count. I need to take inventory. Must be at least 12 or more. I found one place last Fall that had a metal bucket full of Peace and Morgan dollars. They were $8 each and I must have bought 40 coins. I found another place this Winter. It was mostly 1921 coins, mixed mints, all $8 to $10. I bought 20 or so. I still have a few to look at. I think I've already blown my budget for 2005.
