I lay them lengthwise on edge on the patio in my backyard, then whack the other side with a hammer -- the exact method recommended to me when I called SEGS for advice!
    When in doubt, don't.

I also use a hammer, just like any other slab. But, SEGS is tough - damned tough!

  • I agree with Goose ....

It can't harm the coins anymore than they already are in the slabs ...

Question ??? Why break them out only to get BB'd anywhere else ????

I hope your not trying to get them graded anywhere near the grade on the slab ???

The above is IMHO and covered under free speach as guaranteed by the Constitution ... I don't want to be sued ... LOL ...

I cracked a half eagle out of one with a saw. I guess cracking out isn't the right term if a saw is used.

Try a saw with a blade that has at least 16 teeth per inch (best for plastic).

  • Use a vise - tighten slowly - it'll crack the "seems" - just make sure you put a cloth or something soft underneath
Segs is the most difficult of the slabs to liberate your coins from.

Good question. Believe it or not, I think the coin can cross. It was graded a long time ago & I think both PCGS/NGC have loosened standards on the coin in question.

once you get the technique down, the hammer method works as well on segs as any other plastic. 1 WHACK does the job, 3 seconds flat.
