What does my 3 Leg Buffalo Grade @ NGC or PCGS?: Grade Revealed

I bought this so its too late to warn me off. It is slabbed and I'll reveal the slab and grade later this evening. I'd like to get opinions on what the coin would grade @ NGC or PCGS. I think the coin is correctly graded where its at...so its not a trick question...but since I don't know this series that great...I'd like to see what the majority think.

  • I'm going to take a stab at F15 . Waiting for grades from PCGS ON MY 3-leg hoping for AU so it will more than likely come back EF.

    VF25
    When in doubt, don't.
  • F-15 is my guess.

A great coin regardless, I like it very much.image

PCGS VF-35 or XF-40. My guess is that they ignored the incomplete horn and graded it on overall sharpness.

I don't know what either service would call it, but I'd call it Fine-15. The obverse is probably a little better, but since strike typically isn't an issue for these, I'd want the full horn to be visible to grade it Very Fine or above.

Vf30. They seem to grade this one easier. I have one that is a bit sharper with a full horn that PCGS graded EF40.

    vf30

The details outweight the lack of a full horn.

F-15, technical grade. Could have squeezed out a low end VF market grade based on a ghost of horn we can't see in image. As an old Buff collector, VF means full horn, not a trace ...

I am guessing it is in a Vf-25 or 30 Holder. I like other's want a full horn in the Vf grades, although a majority of TPG's tend to not figure this in as much. Some of the tougher struck dates are one thing, but three leg's can be found with Full horns easily.

Thank you for the comments and grades. Grading by the book, I agree with those who say F15. It's clear there is no full horn here. For some reason, however, I'm seeing VF25 and even VF30 in the 2 major third party slabs that look like this. Go figure. I paid strong VF money for this one. Like some others, I liked the detail and trouble free color. No worry mates. It will soon be freed from its plastic coffin and safely placed in my VF Buffalo Album.

I think it could go VF20... 25 is alittle steep unless the reverse is better in hand than in the picture. It is still an attractive coin and I would leave in the holder to help with authentication.
