POLL: Should eBay eliminate "PRIVATE" feedback & auctions?

OuthaulOuthaul Posts: 7,440 ✭✭✭✭✭
Given the propensity for scamming, should it be eliminated? There is a proliferation of "COPY" and counterfeit coins on eBay and they appear to do nothing about it. Sure, they have rules, but a rule that is not monitored or enforced is useless. Recently, there has been a post on this forum with regard to a "COPY" of a rare date CC Morgan. The seller is a "Powerseller" and has accumulated numerous negative feedback, ten in the last month alone.

Link-O-Matic to the thread in question.

I am all for eliminating this option...howboutyou?

Cheers,

Bob

They should eliminate it for coin auctions. But there are other auctions where "private" is perfectly appropriate. Pr0n, for example.

I ignore all auctions offered by private feedback sellers. I figure they have something to hide.

BTW, I thought we all were heading over to Amazon.com. Their fees are lower. Why the questions about FeeBay? image

No, they don't need to eliminate it. If you don't trust a "private" seller, don't buy from him. A "private" buyer should make no difference to you as you should get money up front before shipping anyway.
  • Yes, but with a catch. I think there should be certain types of auctions that flag the feedback as private. As somebody also mentioned above, I think that 'adult industry' types of materials should result in automatic private feedback/auction. I also think that if an item has a start price, or ending price, that is above a certain level, it should automatically be private. (So let's say you auction off a coin below this private threshold for the starting price. In the beginning, while the price is below that threshold, all bidders can be seen. As soon as that threshold is reached, the list of bidders is made private and the auction becomes private in terms of feedback). This way the scum can't just prey on someone who just bought an expensive coin/item. It would also make it so that people can't just hide their feedback as it would be a process beyond their control. Of course this would take some work from E-Bay and therefore cost money which means it will never happen, but it would be a nice idea.
