Seeking information on this "ship" medal ...

I'm trying to find mintage figures, ID#, and current value estimates, if available, for this large (43.5 gr) silver medal:

Comemmorates the 450th anniversary of the founding of Vera Cruz,
measures approx. 45mm diameter and about 3mm thick. Edge is
incuse lettered:

Id CIUDAD FUNDADA EN EL CONTINENTE POR LOS CONQUISTADORES

    I don't know of ay souce you could run to and get that kind of information on Medals,,There are a lot of them and usually tiny mintages. No help, Good Luck....Maybe Askari could help.

    Mintages are hard to come by, even when it's from a major source like the Franklin Mint or MACO. I've not seen this Mexican medal, but Mexican medals don't appear very often, so I'd expect their mintages are low -- probably no more than 250 in silver. There are no "Standard Catalogs" for most medals unless they're part of a very popular theme (like Napoleonics, So-Called Dollars, etc.) Mostly, you have to rely on major auction catalogs, which are quite hit-or-miss (and mostly miss); if it is cataloged, it would probably be in Spanish as I can't find an English source for even such a prolific medalist as Argentina's Gottuzzo.

    Mark, here's a link to where I found the reference LINK. There isn't much info on Grove other than there appears to be three volumes.

    Thanks, Steve! I've learned to start a file of useful references I come across mention of. Finding out what exists can be harder than finding an actual copy, when it comes to medal references.
