Heritage Price Guide...WTF?

OuthaulOuthaul Posts: 7,440 ✭✭✭✭✭
I opened it this morning and was re-directed to a Numismedia offer to subscribe at a special Heritage rate. So now Heritage has partnered with Numismedia and is no longer offering their price guide for registered users.

That sucks.

If you use the Heritage "My Collection" spread sheet it will return the Numismedia wholesale price and the population for both PCGS and NGC for each coin. That is still free.

Is there a place ? It appears that sellers are throwing numbers in a hat and whatever is pulled out is the price. Just yesterday a coin was researched and the spread was from $80.00 , PCGS Price Guide, to $220.00 , the price Heritage was selling a example for. Three other prices were found on Web Sites that were in between these numbers. The sellers number was $137.00 so according to PCGS it was way over priced and Heritage said I ripped the guy.

Guess I'm lucky. Last week for the first time in several months I went to the Heritage price listing for Lincoln cents and downloaded the MS/PR61-MS/PR70 listings and printed them. They were updated at that time. Too bad if that freebee is gone forever. Steveimage

I'll make you a deal, Heritage -- you stop sending me 20 lbs of auction catalogs that I never read, and give me the price guide for free. That's got to be a good deal for you, right?

Are the Numismedia prices even close to being accurate?

The best place is that Heritage archives.

How can they be? Coins of the same grade sell for different premiums all the time. An "accurate" price guide is an oxymoron. image

What happened to the Heritage Value Index that was with each listing or is this the "missing" price guide?
