Came much faster than I expected. Logged in 1/8 and shipped 1/24. A couple 9s, several 8s and way too many 7s. Even a 6 and a 5 in there. I called myself looking at these things. A few will be cracked out and resubmitted. So far I am 4-for-5 on cracking 7s and getting 8s. But the best part is I finally got a Henderson, Grote, and Reds RCs in PSA 8. WOO-HOO!! That makes me feel a little better about all the 7s.

1986 Topps Baseball PSA 9 Schmidt, Rice, Carew, Rose, Yount and more on ebay
<< <i>I wouldn't have submitted the cards if I didn't thing they had a legit shot at an 8 or better. Obviously I missed a surface wrinkle on a couple. Honestly most of these cards were physically (corners, edges, surface) really close to nines but the centering was borderline on several of them, and I specified no qualifiers, hence the sevens. I figured with the $5 special they were worth the chance. Still there were a few that I checked with a dial caliper that fell just within the centering range for a PSA 8 and definitely met the criterion for an 8, but got a 7 so these will be going back. >>
thats exactly what happened to me on a few cards.. i got several more 7's than i wouldve liked, and a few 6's.. as you did, i specified "no qualifiers" so the centering on some may have been the reason for the grade..
As always, it depends on the card. If the card really deserved an 8 in the first place, then the answer to your question is no, it wouldn't be overgraded as an 8. If the card deserved a 7 all along and later received an 8, then yes, it would now be overgraded. This really goes back to my feeling that PSA's grading standards have become a moving target. I'd feel a lot better about the grades I receive myself if I didn't consistently see lesser cards in holders with higher numbers on them. I'd feel better about the level of consistency if I didn't hear stories about people cracking stuff and getting 2-grade upgrades. While you should definitely buy the card and not the holder, the moving target has made it tougher to buy a graded card that you're sure to be happy with. Given the price gaps between 8s, 9s, and 10s, this is sort of a big deal.
