Don't know what those typically go for, but that is a SWEET coin!

More than a steal, since MS66 goes for around the same price...

It was a rip, under greysheet for a non-PL. Probably due to the pictures not showing any contrast at all, the images look like a run of the mill business strike.

Huh! I know nothing about Morgans, and utter boredom caused me to open this thread. I do not like the look of the coin -- at least the picture of the coin -- so I am glad to learn that it is not yours, Stuart.

RYK and Eric: The only reason that I was even considering bidding on this coin was that it was looking like it would go cheaply.

I saw that the digital pictures did not show mirror-like fields, so I was not very strongly motivated to purchase it. It would have only given me a 1 point bump up above my MS-65 PL, and I figured that I could use the $368 to fill a hole in my registry set rather than for a 1 point upgrade.

Having used all of the baove logic, it still would have been kind of cool to own a Morgan in 66-PL... image

  • Sounds like a decent price. I don't see a strong PL. Perhaps a bad picture. The last 1879-s ms66pl on teletrade sold for $525(including fees of course). Here is a Link to the 1879-s pcgs ms66pl

    Hope that helps.

Based on greysheet, it may appear to be a rip, and it is nice looking. However, it is an extremely common coin that is extremely common in PL. Such things often trade at an apparent discount for the simple reason that they are very hard to sell at full price.
  • It looks like a nice coin for a non-PL price. PLs seem hard to price but are worth a premium to me. In fact I like some PLs better than some DMPLs. The DMPLs show any tiny scuff easily and I like the luster on the PLs.
