I can tell you with a reasonable degree of accuracy how coins in my specialty will grade at PCGS or NGC.

I like the "great condition" Washington piece. I can't think of many coins with scratches like those that I'd call "Great condition".

Russ, I thing PCGS and NGC would grade them both "body bag"

Well, considering this seller makes this type of statement on many of their unslabbed coins they must specialize in all types and series of coins.

Considering Trade Dollars are probably the most counterfeitted (My opinion) of all U.S. coins, and the fact that a coin in this high of grade should have been slabbed eons ago, any sensible person would refrain from bidding on this coin (unless of course they specialized in Trade Dollars), or were a Professional Dealer as opposed to a "wannabe dealer". image

  • Glad I'm not the only one who saw them. I thought I was looking at someting stupid. I emailed him no responce. Nice pictures though.Thsi is not the first ad that he has done this in I've seen others I've even tried to alert the bidders but don't know haw to do it. Now that we are on E-bay I hate it when someone throws out a negative to a profressional collector who I and and lot of other buyers have had nothing but positive things say. I immediataely wrote a respone to the negative in my positive. These tow that I answered back to are simple matters that could of been resolved with a little bit of patiences. Vern is getting up in age but he has never failed to answered my e-mail within 36 hours and he states in his ad that he might not be availible on the weekends and to leave a message. I know it happened to me the two negitives I got two guys said they tried to e-mail me and I never responed. I check and double checked my recordes but ther were never any e-mail from these two individuals but i had to eat the negitives.

The accuracy of the statements themselves is an issue seperate from whether or not a seller can make them.

Cannot the statements by the seller be contrued as a guarantee that these coins will be holdered
with these minimum grades? Is there a means via which eBay could not hold the seller responsible
if the coins do not grade as specified?

Looks like a problem to me.

Seller can represent the grade all they want. Clearly it's his opinion based on how he interprets ANACS standards. Many sellers do that. READ: CAVEAT EMPTOR.

My guess would be he's using the ANACS grading book and letting the potential buyers think TPG. Same deal with NGC and PCGS Grading books.

there's nothing inherently wrong w/ making such statements, but based on the apparent quality of this guy's material, i'd say he's a loser
