The 1884 sure looks better than MS63.
  • That DM is beautiful, it doesn't look 63 to me, it looks 64. The devices are beat up, but the field are very nice. I just think there may be too much friction on the eagle and liberty.

How come you whited out the price? Did you pay more than 535 for it? It's not THAT expensive.

  • Sure looks like a 64 to me...

Brian: At least the money coin came out at 63-DMPL -- It's got the eye appeal of a 64 DMPL. image

Can you please post the pix of the other 3 coins as well. I assume that they were posted in the original thread...

Brian: I can see what perhaps are remant hairlines from an old cleaning on the 1878-S, but from the photo provided the 1886 looks good.

Are ther some hairline scratches which you can see in person, that don't show up on the photo of the 1886??

NO hairlines at all. I have another coin that I am now hesitant to send in because it has a simial look as the 86. Its a 03-O which notoriously has soft strikes.

I like the coins. I had some bodybags too, so I know how you feel. I wouldn't mind so much, but when I see bigger dogs in slabs I wonder why the graders seem to be all over the place for consistency.

Brian: Based on your photo, I hate to say this, but that 1903-O does appear to me to have been either lightly circulated or possibly cleaned.

Brian, both the 78-S and the 1903-O you posted have the "cleaned" look, but I would have to see them in person to tell you exactly what is wrong with them. The 86 looks OK in your image, but even a couple of hairlines on a common date like that will cause the coin to get BB'ed for cleaning. As far as your 84-CC, it a simple case of you being totally robbed. That's only a 63DMPL? What about all these 65s on Teletrade and Heritage that look like they would have a hard time making 63? I'd bust that coin right out of that holder, it's an insult.

That 84-CC is a nice looking coin image

That 78 does have a washed out cleaned look, the 86 I couldn't tell from the picture

okay... the question I have is... was this part of your 4 coin annual (gold or platnium level free grade) submission? If so, then there's the reason why it came back as a 63 (at least the DMPL'ed it).

I dont collect Morgans after being burnt as a kid by people who saw the money burning holes in my pockets (that was before TPG), but even I like that CC dollar... and that says alot.

    Sorry about your other coins.

  • the 84-cc looks better than 50% of MS64s I've seen.

the 78-s does look cleaned - hairlines? or hazy tone? Give it a dip.

the 86 may have a few hairline in the left field - can' tell - is that some polishing on the cap?

I have an 86 which I think is from the same die pair look at the clash marks:

    Steve,

    Nice looking 84-CC
Give Blood (Red Bags) & Platelets (Yellow Bags)!
  • I would say the 1886 has been over dipped.
