How should you deal with this ebay transaction

I put up an auction and stated in big bold letters my payment option: bank transfer, paypal funds, echeck. Also stated in big bold letters to read payment instruction below. Payment intructions states bank transfer and no debit or credit card payments. Auction ended at $60

Buyer who won the auction paid by credit card and I denied the payment and stated that I have a personal account and can't accept any card type payment. He emailed back and said "Hello, I was denied payment on this item? Wondering why because plain as day it shows you accept credit card payment, then scrolling to the bottom I see different. If you wish to not receive credit card payment for this expensive item, maybe we should both walk away and you can relist this item."

Relist the item? I don't think I can relist this for free? I'm really tick.

This buyer was a last few second buyer/bidder. what do you call that sniper?

I emailed him back to say that his payment never went into my account and paypal hanged it. Told him that he should read before placing a bid.

How would you deal with this buyer? Can I give this buyer an unpaid strike after 7 days? He is now in my block list. Should I neg this buyer. I know he will neg me back. I plan to offer it to the second highest bidder. How should I offer this to the second buyer (might think I shill)

Buyer sounds like refuses to pay other than credit card. My Feedback is 100% and have many repeat buyers. Buyer doesn't have cash on hand??

I'd accept the payment and just pay the nominal fees that PayPal charges so you don't have to deal with the problems in the future. It's only a matter of time before PayPal crunches the free personal accounts anyways. They guy had intentions of paying, he did send you the money, I don't think that it warrants a negative. Just be more flexible. The fees PayPal charges are not much anyways, and it's much better paying them than having to deal with potential bouncing checks (which will cost you $15-20 most of the time), or the wait involved in receiving a money order or bank check.
  • He should have read the payment instructions.
  • Well if you have the Paypal credit card logos you are required under the user agreement to accept credit cards. It is your choice, but you face a possible Non-selling seller complaint and a negative.

I had the same problem several times when I checked off PayPal as a payment option (which generates the credit card logos that easttexas mentioned) and said in my payment instructions that I did not accept credit cards. My solution was to still state in my instructions that I accept cash through PayPal but to stop checking PayPal as a payment option when I set up the auction or on my invoice. Haven't had a problem since.

And easttexas is correct about the user agreement requiring that you accept credit cards if you show it as an option. For the one or two buyers who wouldn't agree to another form of payment, I just ate the fees and relisted the auction.
This is for you @thisistheshow - Jim Rice was actually a pretty good player.

  • I turn on the paypal logo so that buyers won't have to manually log in to paypal and type the whole thing.

I don't think I'm a non-selling seller. I'm willing to sell to him but not on that type of payment that I don not accept.. I think it's on ebay unpaid reason for getting credit that buyer wants to pay with payment method I don't.

My instructions in auction description of paypal type payments and the read payment instructions below are on separate line and they in bold font size 18 (that's big). They're not hiding in a big/long paragraph. Payment intructions below in bold "no credit or debit card payments through paypal"

  • No matter what kind of account you have, the paypal logo is the same....I ACCEPT CREDIT CARDS! Kinda sucks.
I have emailed winning bidders and told them that I cannot accept credit card payments thru paypal but was more than happy with just about every other form of payment. I've never run into a proble. (wood being knocked).
If you accept this time, you have signed up for a business account and all your payments, regardless of source (their account or credit card) you get charged a fee. So beware switching. Oh you can switch back, once. But that's it.

I denied his payment and explain about personal account can't accept any card payments. He sounds rude and REFUSED TO PAY OTHER THAN CREDIT CARD. I went to check the bid history and found that he has enough time to read the description before bidding like 20 mins or so. if I file for mutual aggreement (w/c I think he's implying) seller lose in here because you need buyers approval and once buyer disagree that's it buyer won't get unpaid strike and you won't get final value credit and also with this I don't think you can relist for free if you choose this option.

Paypal payment accepted and the words "read payment intruction below" are big enough to see. I use font 18 of turbo lister.

I'll just try the second bidder and explain. If not wait for 7 days.

I checked his FB through toolhaus.org he got 1 unpaid item and he's rude when he leaves neg FB sounds like hard to please.

There is a way to accept paypal and not show those logos. It is a tool that you can activate. I used to have it but do not anymore. Go to the message boards on ebay and ask there. someone will tell you how to do it.

    Good for you.
