Another new purchase: 1800 half dime

Looks like it was dipped long ago and retoned ugly brown, but otherwise undamaged. Probably an LM-1. Does anyone know the diagnostics for the extremely rare V-3 and V-4 varieties offhand?

    PURPLE!
  • Probally an LM-1... but, can't see some of the characteristics clear enough in the picture to be 100% on LM-1 or LM-2... LM-1 is an R.3... LM-2 is an R.7...

Agreed! That one's a beauty. I think I'd send it to NCS for a scrubbing, but it's pretty sweet as is too!

Wow, those are some really cool half dimes. Do you have the 1802 yet, or is it still on the want list? image

I don't have a single draped bust half dime, either large eagle or small eagle yet. I do collect half dimes by date and mint. Do you have any low grade, common date in a PCGS holder you'd like to unload?

    Congratulations!

The 1802 and THE 1870-S are missing from my half dime collection. All other dates and mintmarks are represented. I won't be getting an 1802 any time soon unless the Gallery Mint is striking a version or something. It isn't on the "want" list because I couldn't afford one unless it had several particularly nasty holes drilled through it.

Your choice of the word "unload" implies that I might have a truck full of them, and I wish that I did!
