Hi,
I'm new to the forums, and I have a question that some of you may be able to help me with.
I am looking at an MS64 1906-D Barber half, and I noticed that the price listed in the PCGS guide ($1375) is below the Greysheet price range of $1500-1650. It is also below the Numismedia Fair Market Value of $1940. When I have looked up other coins, the PCGS price is normally the highest.
Does anyone have any thoughts about why PCGS has such a low price?
What do you think is a fair price for this coin? It is graded by NGC, and it looks like a solid MS64.

You have to register to use the auction archives at Heritage, but there's a lot of info there.

Regarding the coin you asked about - it's near-impossible to answer your question without knowing (at least approximately) what it looks like. Are you able to post images here?
Is Heritage generally the best place to get auction price data?

The Heritage auction archives enable you to look up prices for various types/dates/grades without having to search through individual sales to do so. If other sites offer the same, I am not aware of it.
Listed below is what I found doing a search for 1906-D MS64 Barber Halves - you can see that the two most recent NGC MS64's brought less than $1200 each. Please keep in mind that, like other sources, auction prices realized are sometimes misleading, too. For instance, if a coin is conservatively graded and/or has tremendous eye-appeal, it might bring multiples of what a typical example would.
Edited to add: Likewise, an inferior coin might bring a very low price and lead one to the mistaken belief that other, better examples are worth less than they truly are.
