Newbie question... read the archives on *carbon* spots

And I noticed that most gave opinions that carbon spots will take a point or two away from the grade. I sent the following '44 liberty half into PCGS to see what they did with it on a crossover. NGC graded it MS65. Granted... the pic is lousy under flourescent lighting and a sour angle, but what is the norm for a spot this big as far as grading? I bought it for $80 just out of curiosity since no one seemed to want it in an eBay auction. The obverse is quite good. Betting it will come back in the NGC holder, but the obverse had details that were quite good and zero contact points that I remember.

Anyone have any thoughts? And on that note... what is a good setting on a digital camera(or good lighting) to take pics with?

That's a BIG spot. IMHO, PCGS will not cross it.

PS: can't help you on the photos. I need help myself on those.image
