We're doing some renovating in the basement, and I'm moving my collection to it's semi-permanent home over on my side of the room. So as I'm moving things, I uncover a copy of the Autumn, 1981 issue of Baseball Cards magazine. What immediately strikes me is the lead headline on the cover: "1956 Mantle Card Worth Up To $60".
So I decided to open it up and share some of the prices with you. All prices are for Ex-Mt condition, the highest grade listed.

Thanx for sharing.
When I was in school in NYC in 1977, me and a friend went to a big show downtown - they were selling all kinds of stuff besides cards. A guy had a beauty of a 52T Mantle and wanted 800 bucks for it! Me and my friend just laughed as we walked away saying: the guy is out of his mind! Now, I'm out of my mind, since I picked up the Yankee team stuff from 76-77! Ouch! I didn't have that kind of money anyway but even paying 20 bucks for a card seemed like a bit. Back then there was tons of vintage stuff and only the real veterans could appreciate it. To me, it was just old crap. You can tell I was a real visionary!

<< <i>Ah...Columbia University has matriculated many notable greats, including Lou Gerhig. This story does not speak well for underclassman. Ha! >>

<< <i>Mike - just jesting my friend. I do have a good memory....including same instances of passing on similar cards. I hope you have tossed the maggot infested Reggie bars. Regards. >>

I know you were just messin' - misleading statement by me - meant I ate them when they came out. Actually not a bad candy bar - it had chocolate, caramel, nuts. I believe a few years ago a company got permission to remake the bars for sale. Some people thought they were originals - heck - that bar came out around 1978!

Is that a proof or what?

Reggie had such a reputation for being a hot dog, Catfish Hunter said "Be sure not to put one of those things in your pocket; you're liable to get mustard all over your pants."

Man, I used to LOVE Reggie bars. They didn't do to well here in Boston for obvious reasons, but they were great candy bars. I used eat them all the time.
