Recieved this today. Tipoffs (poor spelling or grammar) in bold:

Dear eBay customer,
During our regularly scheduled account maintenance and verification
procedures, we've detected a slight error in your informations. This might
be due to either of the following reasons: 1. A recent change in your
personal information ( i.e.change of address). 2. Submiting invalid
information during the initial sign up process. 3. An inability to
accurately verify your selected option of payment due to an internal error
within our processors. 4. Fraud Alert - Somone tried to sign in to eBay
but not successful. Please update and verify your information by clicking
the link below:
http://signin.ebay.com/ws2/eBayISAPI.dll?SignIn&ssPageName=h:h:sin:US If
your account information is not updated within 48 hours then your ability
to sell or bid on eBay will become restricted. Thank you The eBay Billing
Deptartment .

All too true, Barry. I'm pretty sure Ebay has spellcheck image
But, the scammers can be entertaining.

  • Most of the ones I've gotten lately (and forwarded to eBay) are in such broken English you would think you where reading a script from a bad Chinese martial arts movie.
  • I always love this one. I got this one yesterday. image

I could be "suspended due to a high risk of fraudulent actions." That's not even good grammar.

Hmm, or maybe the http://femeileeparshive.home.ro/eBayISAPI.dll/Verify.htm gives this one away.

We regret to inform you that your eBay account could be suspended due to a high risk of fraudulent actions. To resolve all these problems please click here and login to your account. If your problems could not be resolved your account will be suspended for a period of 3-4 days, after that it will be again operational.

    Some other simple tip off's.
It's simple eBay know's your name.
EBay does not use clickable links in emails.
Ebay problems will show up when you try to log on.
Please don't ever put your ebay ID or password in any web site that is not .https that little s means a secure link.

  • Barry,

I received the very same so-called E-Bay notice. Updating personal information was a dead giveaway.
Deleted it immediately! Unfortunately you know they probably picked off some innocent unsuspecting bystanders!

First and primary clue of a spoof... they didn't use your name.... only "Dear Ebay Customer"...

Whenever you see that... forward to spoof@ebay.com

  • Give them some info to work with like:

    First name: F***
    Last name: You
Address: 420 Go F*** Yourself Street
    e-mail: f***off@f***you.com

I usually do something along those like just to vent at the scammers. Not that they care, but I feel better.

Now they know a live email address. They can sell those for a nickel each. You've actually helped them make a nickel. image I hope you have good spam filters.

  • I think the scammers have outsourced their solicitations to India...image

Does eBay do anything about these things when they're reported?

I registered feelfree2spamme@yahoo.com for exactly that purpose. Now, I never use my regular email for any submission forms online. I ususally don't even put in any true information in submission forms. Kinda OT, but here's my usual entry when I'm signing up for something:

    Gonfunko
    F
    Funk

Born: July 26, 1789 (Half of the webforms actually accept this)

    123 Oak Tree Lane
    Natchez, Mississippi 39120
    (123) 456-7890

    feelfree2spamme@yahoo.com

  • I keep getting the infamous- laptopseller.com who has been added to my paypal account- love pulling the server info especially when it is coming out of china routed thru Canada and God only knows where.
