Do you contact your buyer..

...for no reason within a certain number of days after the auction?

Situation: I had some auctions end on Friday that benefited Jimmie Wallet, which raised over $500, and I got most of my paments right away which was great. I packed everything up over the weekend and mailed them today.
Tonight I got an email from a buyer saying it had been three days since the auctions ended and if he didn't hear from me by Wednesday he would report me to Ebay. Why? I had already left possitive feedback for him earlier this morning. Why the he11 should I contact him?

Do you contact buyers after an auction if they have already paid? I thought his email was kind of odd.

-sort of ticked,
John

I contact buyers as a courtesy to let them know I got thier payment, or that I have shipped the item, or that I have left feedback for them. I think it makes them feel better about the purchase they made. But ... it's just my opinion.

That's a pretty strong email you got.

A lot of buyers like some kind of feedback via email indicating that payment was received and that their items shipped on x date. I usually add that extra bit of praise to a communicative seller.

I sure think threatening the seller is a foolish move, though. The buyer just as easily could have said "I haven't heard from you, I just wanted to make sure my payment got to you. It would also be helpful to me to know when you will send the package so I can make appropriate arrangements" or some such thing.

  • I don't think I have ever been contacted by a seller unless they were wondering where my payment was.
I should start dealing with nicer sellers like you, Tom, and maybe I wouldn't be so grumpy when I get e-mails like this.

If they pay right away I leave feedback. From that the buyer can see I received payment.

I usually leave feedback and e-mail upon payment, and e-mail them when item is shipped, but I am not 100% consistent in my actions....
  • I email them a response so they know I got the payment and their item was shipped. I like sellers to do the same for me.image

I think, that every seller should write some short note to buyer: "got your payment, will ship soon" or something like that, as PP said it is only 15 seconds and it will defend you from such stupid e-mails image that you have got from him.

Edited to add: as an example: few days before I bought some coins from that seller: Text - I have paid him few seconds after he send me the invoice and even send him the e-mail, there pasted the confirmation of payment, which I received from PayPal. I know, that he have opened that e-mail, as I got confirmation, that the message was read. He doesn't reply and doesn't leave any feedback-it was 4 days ago. From the other hand, I suppose that he already have sent the coins, just it looks strange, than the seller answering on all pre-buying e-mails with questions from one hand, and from the other hand haven't 15 seconds to confirm the end of the deal. But sure, I'll not send him such a stupid e-mail! image Actually I didn't send him any additional e-mail at all.

If a buyer sends a paypal payment immediately after the auction ends, I just assume they are getting down to business and don't have any desire for any contact other than receiving the package. Those from whom I don't receive an immediate payment, I send an invoice to within 48 hours (in most cases).
