Crossover results?

I was just curious if anyone has done many crossovers, specifically from BCCG to PSA. I see this auction Puckett
and see it grabbed a 10. PSA10's run $425, yet this one sells for $100?

I am assuming the odds of this getting a 10 from PSA to be pretty low?

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

  • BCCG is a sick joke by Beckett. I have 2 BCCG 10s one would be lucky to recieve a PSA 8 the other might be a 9. My understanding is BCCG does not really grade the cards they just sort of scan over them for obvious flaws if they do not have any flaws then they get a 10.

  • I have had luck with crossing SGC. In fact, I have been lucky in that all of the sgc crossovers I have done were even. Almost all Beckett crossovers were evid. of trim. A few BGS's crossed to even and below.
I have tried to crossover 10 +/- from each.
I'd not buy any beckett graded cards unless I was going to keep them - too much risk.

  • I crossed 2 BCCG 10's. Both came back PSA 9. As long as the scan looks centered (and its not trimmed) I think you have a reasonable chance at a 9. I wouldn't try to get any 10s this way though.

  • There are some sellers on ebay that buy PSA 6s and 7s and cross them over to BCCG 9s, and buy PSA 8s and 9s to cross them to BCCG 10s. Trust me, any card valued at $100 or more in a BCCG holder was first in a BGS, PSA, or GAI holder. Search the closed auctions for high dollar PSA 6s and 7s, such as 1976 Walter Payton, 1986 Michael Jordan, 1958 Jim Brown, 1973 Mike Schmidt, 1979 Wayne Gretzky, and other regular sized cards (remember, BCCG will not grade anything else), and you will see the same buyers. These guys then sell under a different userID after crossing to BCCG. Check out the highest priced BCCG auctions and you will see one guy selling most of them. It is an easy way to make money: buy a PSA 7 Jordan rookie for $350, sell a BCCG 9 for $500 or more. However, if you are looking for PSA 10s, you won't find them.

Incidentally, I did cross 15 BGS 8.5s of the 1987 Fleer Barry Bonds into 13 PSA 9s and 2 PSA 8s, but have yet to cross over a BGS 9 to a PSA 10 for any card.

I crossed over two bccg cards that I bought when I was new to all this. They were an '81 Topps montana and a '72 Topps Staubach. Both were graded 8's (ex or better) and crossed to psa 7's. The cards were basically clean - just off center. I guess even with that service beckett is tougher on centering. I wouldn't try to get a 10 on a high dollar card like that though. You'd have a better chance cracking out psa 9's, lol.

That's about what I thought...this card in 9 is SMR'ed at $85...so for me to buy it at $100, then pay the grading and S/H fees, I'd be way overpaying for it.

    Thanks.
