Got a question on coin purchase selection****This is a serious question***

BearBear Posts: 18,953 ✭✭✭
All things considered, If one were able to purchase one coin

presuming all coins are at the top half of their respective grades (REMEMBER, YOU HAVE TO GIVE YOUR REASONS WHY)

and the choices were:

1. Liberty seated quarter PCGS MS-67 with beaUTIFUL TWO SIDED TONING

2.Liberty Standing Quarter PCGS MS-67 FH BEAUTIFULLY toned on both sides.

3.Golbrecht Dollar PCGS PR-61+

4.Drapped Bust Dollar PCGS AU-55 with thick luster and beutiful two sided toning

Which single coin would you choose to purchase and why?

Hard choices. I would go with the bust dollar. It's the hardest to replace and the coolest of the bunch.

I would go with the Gobrecht dollar as I have never owned one, but a very close second is the Au-55 draped bust$

Gobrecht--I personally prize absolute rarity above all other factors. Let us know how it turns out.

    3.Golbrecht Dollar PCGS PR-61+

The others are more commonly found in collections (at other grades)

Seated quarter - combination of high grade, real rarity and beautiful toning.

The gobrecht is a beautifiul design, but I'd hold out for a higher grade.

This is a tough question as it must take into consideration

which coins have made large increases in recent past, popular demand,

actual rarity, value for the dollars spent and overall collector interest in the

coins listed. Appearence of a coin is rather subjective, so for the purpose of this

exercise, let us assume that each coin met your personal standards of excellence

    for the grades listed.

Three are toned, one isn't. I will take the one.

A very difficult decision, but I would have to go for the Seated Liberty quarter. Clearly the best design made by the U.S. Mint. Very rare in that high of a grade, especially with great toning.

Do you have pictures of all of them?

Would agree with above. Get a better Gobrecht and buy what your "needs" are.

If I had the money, which I do not, the most liquid coin would be purchased. The Gobrecht because in the grade stated you probably would have no problem moving it if the need should arise. The Bust Dollar would be second. The two MS67 coins, even though they are probably cool as hell, would come in last because of the more limited market for them, ie, fewer collectors seeking very high grades and people who do not like tone.
