Thank you GregHansen...prize for the 2004 contest arrived

Greg has been sponsoring a "Guess which coin will go up the most % during a calendar year" contest for the last couple of years.
I entered it last year.....and won!

His prize was a bottle of champagne.

The one catch was....I don't drink (I'm too young image ....well, I act too young at least).

So, he pondered it for awhile and then PMed me that he was sending me something in its place but wouldn't tell me what it was...other than it was appropriate and I would like it.

It arrived yesterday.
He was right!
Appropriate, and I do like it.

It's a PCGS PR69DCAM 200-1 Sacagawea limited edition signed by Jay W Johnson (#654 of 5000).

Pretty cool! I didn't have one, I am sure my son will appreciate it as well. And, it is just all around cool.
(for those that didn't see the contest, in another thread that you can dig up if you want, the guess I had was on the biggest increase being 2001-S Sacs....I think it was something like 1200-1400% increase in the year).

Thanks again for the fun contest Greg, and for the prize!

Ron

Those are bid at $73. + being signed by the mint director. Great prize.

Bochiman...That was a excellent guess...how did you know the 2001-s 1$ would increase so much?

I looked one up on ebay last night and it was over $82, so, it was really cool what Greg did.

As for how I knew......it was a hunch, a guess. I figured there are so many new collectors, modern collectors, and thought of what they would buy. I also took a look at a series that could be done (SAEs, SHQs, Sacs) of things ongoing. Statehood quarters are already too high in some and just WAY too many of them in others. SAEs have way too many and don't circulate, so people are less inclined with them (I collect them as well though).

Then, I looked at what I wanted to try to buy for my son, looked at recent trends (back then) and also looked at the price of the 2001 proof sets. All indications told me they would go up. But, I had NO idea that they would go up that much.
So many great coins out there, but so many had already risen so much and these were so "new" that they hadn't had that rise, but certainly would rise.

They have continued to go up as well I have noticed....I've thought of buying a few more sets.....

Your welcome. It was a winning pick that took me by complete suprise. Once I found out he couldn't use the champagne...I had that myself on New Years Eve...and picking out an alternate prize was a breeze given his winning selection. Good luck to everyone in this years contest.
