Anyway I'm pretty sure it's a 1N--
Check out the 4 on this 1884-P, can't find anything about it. Is it repunched?
Now my favorite, a 1879p, pitted wreath, nice hard double clashing, and very over polished die. Can't find this one either.
Thanks in advance for any and all help

The VAM-37 listed in the 1879-P updates has a pitted reverse. Not sure about others.
"Pitted die from rust extending from denticles thru O in DOLLAR, in lower right wreath into tail feathers and lower arrowhead."
The obverse is supposed to have a double 187 and some doubled/tripled/quadrupled stars.
Thanks for the help on the '21 Herb
And I just looked at the 1884-O, it's not an O, it's a P---geez, sorry about that!
The 21D is very nice. As already said, I am surprised it does not have a VAM assignment. If you do not already have it, get the Fun with 21 book. Great investment.
found in LDS. One sold on eBay for a very strong price...over $200 I think.
I'm not sure what that 1879 pitted reverse is. The Ashmore site lists only an 1879, VAM-37 pitted reverse:
37(revised) III224 $ C3a (Doubled 187, Pitted Lower Reverse) (180) I-3 R-5
Obverse III224B Doubled 187 in date. 1 slightly doubled at very top and left of bottom crossbar. 8 slightly doubled at top right and bottom inside of upper loop. 7 slightly doubled on right side of top left serif. Left stars slightly tripled to quadrupled and right stars slightly doubled to quadrupled.
Reverse C3aB Pitted die from rust extending from denticles thru O in DOLLAR, in lower right wreath into tail feathers and lower arrowhead.
Nothing about a clashed pitted reverse though.

Great info., thanx Jack.
