Vintage Packs...

I am only 22, a lot of my friends love the new stuff, but I don't really like it...I don't like the "ODDS" of getting things...I would prefer ripping Vintage...and thepacks can't be tampered with like they can be with the new product...I am mainly into football, I don't like Hockey at all, but wouldn't mind ripping some, I think I would rather rip vintage baseball over basketball also...

Could you all give me suggestions what are good packs to buy, and can get pretty cheap, and where to get them, that usually have descent pulls in them? I am looking to start a personal collection of cards I rip and grade myself...

Thank

Go to------- The Baseball Card Exchange. Steve Hart is the owner and a really good guy. I already pulled a Montana rc, Elway rc, and a Favre rc from packs I got from him.

When you say "vintage", what years are you talking about. Some call the late 1970's as vintage whereas others call pre 1970 as vintage.

If you are talking about affordable packs to open then the late 1970's would be good. The 1979 contains the Ozzie Smith Rookie and a lot of other stars. 1978 has the rookie cards of Eddie Murray and Paul Molitor/Alan Trammell along with the other stars and 1977 has rookies of Dale Murphy and Andre Dawson.

You said you would not mind opening some hockey even though you don't like hockey. Personally, I feel the early OPC are nice. The 1981 and 1982 OPC have early Gretzky cards and a lot of other stars. The 1983 even has the Scott Stevens rookie. Also, you may be able to pick up some 1970's at a reasonable price. My friend just picked up a 1975 rack pack for under $40.00.

    Well, have fun,

I've dealt with Steve Hart (BB Card Exchange) a fair amount the last year- great guy, great product and excellent service. He's got a good selection of packs from all sports.

    Hi Book
Also Mark Murphy, the BBCKid is very honest and can be trusted.
BTW, I have a recently cracked a rack case of 1979 Topps baseball - if you check the BBC exchange, you will see they go for 30 bucks - for a board person, I will send them for 22$ including ship/insur. I got the case sealed myself years ago from a BBCKid auction. BTW, with Boggs just getting the HOF nod, 83 fleer or Donruss vending would be fun and relatively cheap; the Topps will cost ya more.

    Good luck and happy hunting.

  • Both BBCKid and BBCExchange carry rack boxes of 82/83 OPC hockey. It is one of my favourites sets, great looking design with lots of stars. Several different Gretzky cards, plus rookies of Fuhr, Francis and Hawerchuk.

I was wondering since I just got into unopened stuff. I have some on the way from bbexchange as we speak. Anyway, I was wondering how many gem mint 10's anyone has pulled from these unopened packs? And what would the majority of the cards you pulled be? 9's 8's ?

  • You guys have convinced me. I placed an order with BBC Exchange today for some late 1970's basketball and some racks of those painful 1986 Topps baseball. For those of us who have ordered recently, let's try to get a thread together soon about what we pulled. By the way, I got 3 different emails from BBC Exchange informing me of the stages of my order. This seems like a good sign that they have their act together. Good luck with your packs, everyone!
