Mystery Coin - Nurnberg Commercium?

Some years back I found a rather crusty old coin-like object on the ground. It is about the size of a quarter and dark colored. I keep it in a tin with some old world coins. I was going through the tin today and came across the coin and I decided to try and find out what it is. I had tried to find out what it is before but never had any luck.

The coin is barely readable, but with magnification and eyestrain I can make out some of the details. On one side of the coin is a person facing the left of the coin, possibly a woman, wearing a winged hat and she looks like she is running (one foot is on the ground, the other is up in the air, arms out stretched in front of her). barely legible are the words FLOREAT COMMERCIUM above her and something like LAURB below her. On the other side of the coin is what looks like pointy tops of buildings, like church steeples, with the word NURNBERG on top and the word IRTTON below.

Well, I've tried to research what this could be in the past and never found anything. But today, I tried again and I found a description of it on a world coin unidentified coin forum. Someone else has one just like it. Someone at that forum said it might be something called a Jeton, but they weren't sure.

Have any of you ever heard of such a coin or token? Thanks, in advance, for any replies.

It's difficult to say without pictures, but it does indeed sound like a German jeton. Could "LAURB" be "LAUER"? Ludwig Christian Lauer was one of the more prolific and accomplished of German medalists and he hailed from Nürnberg, as I recall.

Thanks for the reply. LAURB could easily be LAUER because the crust on this thing makes the letters barely legible. I'm tempted to try and clean it a bit but I'm afraid of ruining it. What is the least harmful for old crusty coins? I've heard of olive oil, inserting into a potato and other methods but never tried any of them.

Depends on what it's encrusted with. An olive oil soak may do well, but it takes a long time.
